SEAMEC anticipates a better year ahead after some difficulties in the year just ended.  SEAMEC faces a massive job in 2008 with elections ranging from the governor's office and US represenatives to state legislative candidates.  There are also candidates seeking judicial and other statewide positions.  The group will focus on forming this year's questionnaire that will be presented to all candidates during interviews in the spring and summer.  Work on the questionnaire will begin at a meeting of the Steering Committe, Wednesday February 27, at 7 pm at the SEAMEC Office.  SEAMEC is located at 1605 12th Ave on Capitol Hill — near the office of Seattle Gay News.  Guests and potential volunteers are welcome.
Jeremy Brown, a Web development specialist,  has been an active member of SEAMEC since 2005, and is active in the LGBT community.  Barbara Sehr has been a member of SEAMEC since 2007, and also serves as co-chair of the Ingersoll Gender Center steering committee. She is a writer and stand-up comedian.  Michael Andrews  has been a former co-chair and has served SEAMEC since 1998.  He has been a campaign manager for local politicians and he currently serves as a member of the executive committee for Jobs with Justice. Benjamin Sheppard has an extensive background in social marketing for HIV/AIDS education and prevention, editing and publications management. He’s a veteran activist of several national organizations in Washington, D.C., including the National Minority AIDS Council, PFLAG and LLEGÓ.

Former Vice President Al Gore — who won the popular vote in the 2000 Presidential Election — has come out in favor of gay marriage.  He is the first national political figure  since Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich to endorse the concept of gay marriage. "Shouldn't we be promoting faithfulness and loyalty to one's partner regardless of sexual orientation? " says the Nobel Laureate, Oscar and Emmy Award winner in a brief video made for his Current.com Web site.
Gore's video is embedded below:

The one-time Democratic US Senator from Tennessee has been the subject of a "Draft Gore" movement since his forthright stand on global warming was demonstrated in the movie "An Inconvenient Truth."  Gore has been a frequent critic of the current administration, including the occupation of Iraq and the fiscal policies put in place by George W. Bush.  Bush was declared the winner of the 200 election in a controversial decision by the US Supreme Court.
